What You Can Do To Help Your Heart

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

With the high levels of obesity in our country, we are finding out more and more about heart disease and what being overweight can do to your heart. Heart disease is one of the leading killers of Americans and it doesn’t have to be that way. Just by losing weight and exercising we can change the outcome of our lives and be well on our way to have a healthy heart.

It is important that you start any weight loss or exercise program by talking to a doctor. They can administer a test called the HSCRP, or high sensitive C-reactive protein test. This is a blood test that can predict heart attacks and strokes before they happen. By measuring the levels of your blood protein they can find out if you have inflamed or clogged arteries which may rupture and cause heart failure. This is better than a cholesterol test which can come out with normal levels, and not indicate that there is an underlying problem in your heart.

The next thing you want to do is to start an exercise routine immediately. Exercise is great for your heart, and the more you do it, the better off you will be. Exercise effects wear off pretty quickly so you want to keep up with regular exercise so that you can continue to have a healthy heart. Although you may think you have a healthy heart, it is always best to get some form of physical exercise at least three times a week. Exercise should also include strength training or resistance training. As well as working your muscles, it will make you stronger so that there is less pressure on the heart when you walk, breathe, and move around. You will have more energy and it will burn off more calories which can help you to lose weight which is a big reason many people have heart failure.

Another way you can help your heart is by planning your diet. There are many foods that can make your heart healthier such as nuts, veggies, blueberries, salmon, extra-virgin olive oil, soy protein, oatmeal, and spinach. It is important to get the right amount of greens in your diet such as veggies but it is equally important to get fruits as well which can lead to a healthier heart. Also, look for foods that are low in cholesterol and high in protein which help your body to run better.

You may also want to talk to your doctor about taking a effective diet pill with high levels of cholesterol reducing statin drugs which can help to reduce heart attacks. If you are found to already have clogged or inflamed arteries it is important to find something that can help relieve the pressure on your heart. Your doctor may also suggest other drugs that can help you lower your cholesterol as well. Research anything they suggest and ask for a second opinion before you jump into surgery such as angioplasty. It is important that you take control of your health as well as listen to your doctor.

You only get one heart. It is important that you make it the best it can be. If you do have heart problems then now is the time for you to change your diet, add exercise to your life, and become more aware of what you can do to improve your heart.

How Natural Weight Loss Plans Work For You

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

Natural weight loss plans are just that – natural. That means no pills, not schemes, no fasting. It is nothing but working hard at losing weight through eating right and exercising. Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to lose weight without taking dangerous drugs or starting a weight loss pill, you just have to know how to do it.

You need to start with a plan for losing the weight. Set some short term goals and long term goals. Without a plan you are going to fail simply because you do not know in which direction your weight loss is going to go in. You also need to be realistic about your weight loss goal when you make them. Weight loss does not happen overnight, and you need to know that it is going to take time. Your health is very important, so you need to be willing to take that time and do what you need to do to lose the weight. Taking effective diet pills alone, give you a false sense that you will lose the weight practically overnight with no side effects. Beside the side effects the drugs can cause you, chances are you are going to regain the weight anyhow, so it is best to do it strictly through hard work and determination.

You need to start by getting your body moving through exercise. If you need to start by exercising just once a week, then that is fine. For example the benefits of walking everyday are huge. However, you should strive for minimum of 30 minutes per day five days a week. Then you will be at the point that you are going to lose weight. If you do it three times a week then you will be maintaining the weight you have now. The truth of the matter is that if you are at least doing some sort of exercise you will start seeing results, but you do need to keep it up and move up in the amount of exercise you do.

The best way to burn calories is through aerobic exercise. This is what is going to raise your heart rate and your metabolism. It burns calories so that you are taking in less to your body which means less fat gain which is important in losing weight. How many calories depends on how often you exercise and at what intensity, but just exercising in general will help you get off to a good start. You should also add some resistance training or weight training into your schedule to build muscle. Muscle helps to burn fat quicker and it will help you to look toned instead of flabby.

The best way to focus on being healthy and well is to not focus solely on being thin. Thin people aren’t necessarily the healthiest people. So, before you concentrate only on what the scale says you should look at how you are feeling. Do you have energy? Are you rested? Can you walk for a long time without feeling winded? These are all signs of a healthy body. You need to stop looking at the numbers and look at how you are feeling inside of your body.

The way you look at being healthy is going to determine whether you can be or not. Instead of just muddling through it, take on this journey with passion and determination and anything is possible. Who knows, maybe you’ll be running a marathon in a year and be at your goal weight without even knowing it.
